- Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
SYMPTOMSIn the Japanese version of Microsoft Office SharePoint
Portal Server 2003, you may find that you cannot access certain folders in a
backward-compatible document library in your portal site. For example, when you
position the pointer over the name of a folder in the document library, the URL
of the folder that is displayed in the status bar of the Japanese version of
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 unexpectedly contains additional characters.
When you click the link to the folder to access the folder for the first time,
you receive an error message that is similar to the following: The page cannot be displayed
HTTP 404 - File or
directory not found CAUSEThis issue may occur if all the following conditions are
true:
- You connect to the portal site by using the Japanese
version of Internet Explorer 6.0.
- You access a folder in a backward-compatible document
library for the first time.
- The name of the folder contains only low-order ASCII
characters.
In this situation, Internet Explorer 6.0 opens the page by using
a different format other than Unicode format, and you experience the symptoms
that are described in the "Symptoms" section of this article. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, use either of the following
methods:
- Press F5 to refresh the Web page. After you do so, the
contents of the Web page are displayed correctly and you can access the folders
or the files that you want.
- Add a non-ASCII character to the name of the
folder.
