How to remove files and registry keys that are left behind after you remove SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (831083)

This article describes the files and the Windows Registry keys that are left behind after you remove Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 from your computer.

After you remove SharePoint Portal Server from your computer, several files and Windows Registry keys are left behind. These files and registry keys will not effect the operation of your computer. These items can be deleted with no effect on the operation of your computer.

SharePoint Portal Server files and folders

Delete the following folders from the C:\WINDOWS\inf folder:
  • 000
  • 004
  • 007
  • 009
  • 00A
  • 00C
  • 010
  • 011
  • 012
Delete the following folders under the C:\WINDOWS\inf\inc folder:
  • DAVEX
  • ESE
  • EXOLEDB
  • MSExchangeIS
  • Msdmserv
Delete the following temp file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\ASP Compiled Templates\PID3652.TMP\

SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Windows Registry keys

To delete a Windows Registry key, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate, and then click the key in the registry that you want to delete.
  3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  4. Click Yes.
Repeat these steps for each key that you want to delete.

Class root CLSID registry keys for SharePoint Portal Server

Under the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\ registry branch, delete the following keys:

Delete the following registry keys:
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Setup\mgsetdata.dll\
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\EmbeddedExchange\
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Setup\ComponentCount\ComponentCount
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole\LegacyImpersonationLevel

DREDGE registry keys

Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WBEM\WDM\DREDGE\ registry key, delete the following values:
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Storage System\bin\store.exe[MofResource]
  • C:\WINDOWS\System32\DNSAPI.dll[MofResource]
  • C:\WINDOWS\System32\comsvcs.dll[COSMofResource]
  • C:\WINDOWS\System32\inetsrv\asp.dll[AspMofResource]
  • C:\WINDOWS\System32\inetsrv\w3core.dll[W3CoreMofResource]
  • C:\WINDOWS\System32\inetsrv\w3isapi.dll[W3IsapiMofResource]

Shared DLL registry key

Under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls\ registry key, delete the following value:
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\CDO\CDOEX.DLL

Backup and Restore registry keys

For each of the following registry keys, delete the esebcli2 value:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\BackupRestore\DLLPaths\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\BackupRestore\DLLPaths\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\DLLPaths\

Performance registry keys

For each of the following registry keys, delete the list of values that follows this list of registry keys:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\ESE\Performance\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\ESE\Performance\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ESE\Performance\
Delete these values:
  • Close
  • Collect
  • First Counter
  • First Help
  • Last Counter
  • Last Help
  • Library
  • Object List
  • Open
  • PerfIniFile
  • WbemAdapFileSignature
  • WbemAdapFileSize
  • WbemAdapFileTime
  • WbemAdapStatus

Event log registry keys

Under each of these registry keys, are several sub keys that have values that you must delete.
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Eventlog\Application\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\Eventlog\Application\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application\
Delete the values under each of the following registry sub keys:
  • ESE\
  • ESE BACKUP\
  • MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store\
  • MSExchangeIS Public Store\
  • MSExchangeSetup\
    For these registry sub keys delete the following values.

    Note Not all the values may be present under each of these sub keys.
    • CategoryCount
    • CategoryMessageFile
    • EventMessageFile
    • TypesSupported

Microsoft Outlook Web Access registry keys

Delete the following registry keys for Outlook Web Access:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\MSExchangeWEB\OWA\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\MSExchangeWEB\OWA\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeWEB\OWA\
