.vss and .vst file types are not removed from the registered file types list during removal of Visio 2003 (831071)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
- Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003
SYMPTOMSAfter you remove Microsoft Office Visio 2003 from your
computer, the Visio file types VSS (Microsoft Visio Stencil) and VST (Microsoft
Visio Template) still appear in the Registered file types
list. To view the Registered file types list, on the
Tools menu in Microsoft Windows Explorer, click Folder
Options, and then click the File Types
tab.CAUSEThis problem occurs because during the removal of Visio 2003
most of the information for the VSS and VST file types is removed, even though
the file types still appear in the list of registered file types.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, manually remove the VSS and VST
file types from the list of registered file types. To do so, follow these
steps:
- Start Windows Explorer.
- On the Tools menu, click Folder
Options.
- Click the File Types tab.
- In the Registered file types list, click
VSS, click Delete, and then click
Yes to confirm.
- Repeat step 4 for the VST file type, and
then click Close.
STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
