Visio 2003 and Visual Basic Editor stop responding when you open both programs (831066)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
  • Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Office Visio 2003 and then you start Visual Basic Editor, Visual Basic Editor may stop responding. Additionally, Visio may stop responding.

CAUSE

Visual Basic Editor may appear to stop responding if there is a problem with the connection to your default printer. If you try to quit Visio during this time, Visio stops responding. If you wait for the call to the printer to time out, Visio and Visual Basic Editor run correctly.

When you start Visual Basic Editor, the Properties window displays the properties of the document. Every Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) project in Visio contains a default class module that is named ThisDocument. The ThisDocument class module represents the document's properties, methods, and events that are associated with the project. Visual Basic Editor tries to call each ThisDocument property to obtain its current value. If there is a problem with the connection to the current printer, the behavior that is described in the "Symptoms" section of this article occurs.
