Cannot Search for Visio 2003 Shapes by the Master Name (831064)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
  • Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Visio 2003, when you use the Search for Shapes feature to search for shapes, when you search for the master name, the name is not found. If you search for one of the keywords that is associated with the master instead of searching for the master name, the query is successful. This issue occurs even if you have the Indexing Service enabled.

CAUSE

The Search for Shapes feature in Visio 2003 searches the property values of the shape, including the keywords, but not the master name.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, if you want to search for the master, search for a keyword value that is associated with the master instead of searching for the master name. Or, when you create a new master, in the Master Properties dialog box (right-click the master in the stencil, point to Edit Master, and then click Master Properties), type the master name as one of the keywords in the Keywords box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
