The tablet pen switches from the Selection Tool option to a pen in OneNote 2003 (831037)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, when used with:
    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
  • Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, Service Pack 1 (SP1)

SYMPTOMS

When you change from one of the pens to the Selection Tool option in Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 on a Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition-based computer, touching the tablet pen to the screen may change the setting from the Selection Tool option back to the pen.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when both the following conditions are true:
  • You switch to the Selection Tool option by using the ALT+T+W+S key combination.
  • You have the Automatically switch between Pen and Selection Tool option turned on.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Start OneNote 2003.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click Handwriting, and then click to clear the Automatically switch between Pen and Selection Tool check box.
  4. Click OK two times.
  5. Quit OneNote 2003.

    The setting takes effect the next time that you start OneNote 2003.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, use the tablet pen instead of the keyboard to select the Selection Tool option.
