The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003

For a Microsoft FrontPage 2002 version of this article, see 288716 .

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003, when you try to insert a File Upload form (on the Insert menu, point to Form, and then click File Upload), you are not prevented from inserting the File Upload form.

When you locate the page that contains the File Upload form, you receive the following string above the File Upload component:

[FrontPage File Upload Component]

If you select a file and upload it, you receive the following error message:
Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page: "http://server name/page name"
Also, when you author directly on a Web server, you cannot change the folder properties to permit anonymous uploads from FrontPage 2003.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if your Web site is located on an Apache Web server. The File Upload form does not work with an Apache Web server.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

The anonymous uploads option is turned off to prevent anonymous uploads that can make the Web server vulnerable to attack. Otherwise, a user can potentially upload a file that can run malicious code.
