FIX: The server stops responding after it makes a remote call to a client Marshal-by-reference (MBR) object in .NET Framework 1.1 Remoting (831018)

SYMPTOMS

The server stops responding after it makes a remote call to a client Marshal-by-reference (MBR) object in Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Remoting.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the server makes a method call to the client MBR object and then the call becomes stuck in a loop. If the method call that is used by the server contains the ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem method, the server may become unresponsive after several hundred requests have been sent.

You may also notice that this problem may start when the available thread count on the client-side ThreadPool reaches 0.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the hotfix that is described in the following previously published Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

824629 FIX: Temporary files are not deleted after you connect to a server that is running Windows SharePoint Services or SharePoint Portal Server 2003

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
