Scheduled Tasks That Use NTAUTHORITY\SYSTEM Do Not Run Correctly (831003)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use a non-English version of Microsoft Windows XP, if you use Schtasks.exe to schedule a task, and then use incorrect syntax in the command to schedule a second task, neither task runs, and text that contains the incorrect element appears in the Run As box. This problem only affects tasks that run under a SYSTEM account.

For example, the following syntax in a German version of Windows XP is incorrect:

schtasks /create /RU "NT-AUTORITÄT\SYSTEM" /SC BEIMSTART /TN TEST2 /TR cmd.exe

Where SYSTEM is the non-English text for the username.
