Users Do Not Appear in the Orphaned Users Container After You Remove a Live Communications Home Server (830532)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

After you remove a Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003 home server from an Active Directory domain, the users who were hosted on that server may not appear in the Orphaned users container of another Live Communications Server computer.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Active Directory directory service is under a heavy load during the removal of the Live Communications Server home server. In this scenario, the process that orphans the users who are hosted on the removed server may time out. As a result, the msrtcsip-PrimaryHomeServer attribute for each user who was hosted on the now-removed server points to a distinguished name (DN) that is not valid (a tombstoned DN).

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Permit Active Directory to Remove the Tombstoned Objects

Permit sufficient time for Active Directory to automatically remove the tombstoned objects. When these objects are removed by Active Directory, the users appear in the Orphaned users container on other Live Communications Server computers.

Method 2: Manually Assign a New Home Server

Assign a new Live Communications Server computer to the users by using the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in. To do this, follow these steps.

Note You can also assign a Live Communications Server home server by using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) scripts.
  1. Start Active Directory Users and Computers, and then locate the container where users whose home servers that you want to modify are stored.
  2. Right-click a user, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Live Communications tab, click the home server that you want to assign in the Home server list, and then click OK.

STATUS
