Volume Control May Not Work When You Play an Audio CD in the My Music Folder (830391)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you listen to an audio CD or other audio file in the My Music section of Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition, and you try to raise the volume, the volume control may not increase the sound level as expected, or the sound may not play at all.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the volume level in Windows Media Player is set to zero or to a very low setting. The volume control in Media Center mixes the sound level based on the existing volume levels in Windows Media Player and the computer volume. Media Center does not change these settings when the you use the Media Center volume control to increase the volume.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, set the maximum volume that you want in Media Player, and then use the Media Center volume control to adjust the volume in My Music.
