SUMMARY

After you install Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 with Business Contact Manager, you may receive the following error message:
There was a problem connecting to the database engine. To try again, please click Retry. If the problem persists, check Help.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, add a new user to the Business Contact Manager (BCM) group. To do so, follow these steps.

Note The use of Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) as a database requires that users be a member of the BCM user group to use the database. This behavior is the default configuration in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and in Microsoft Windows XP Professional.
  1. Log on to a Windows XP or a Windows 2000 Professional-based computer as an administrator.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management.
  4. Double-click Local Users and Groups, and then click the Groups folder.
  5. In the right pane, double-click BCMUsers.
  6. Click Add, type the Authenticated users, and then click OK to add the NT Authority\Authenticated users to the group.
