How to control client upgrades when you upgrade to Systems Management Server 2003 (830018)

This article describes how to control the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 client upgrade behavior when you upgrade your site to SMS 2003.

By default, when you upgrade a site to SMS 2003, all clients in that site are automatically upgraded. However, in some scenarios, you may want to control when the SMS clients are upgraded. Each client upgrade requires approximately 12 megabytes (MB) of network bandwidth. In a large organization, many simultaneous client upgrades may overwhelm your available network bandwidth.

You can use the Client Upgrade Control tool (Cliupgrade.exe) to control the client upgrade behavior in your site. Cliupgrade.exe is located in the Smssetup\Bin\I386 folder on the SMS 2003 CD-ROM. You can use this tool to temporarily stop all clients in your site from being upgraded.
