SUMMARY

In a Works for Windows print merge document with two database field place holders side by side on one line, the second field place holder slides left and prints in the left place holder's position if the following information is true for your version of Works.

Works 2.0 and 3.0

  • The first place holder references a blank field in the database.

  • There is only one white-space character between the place holders.

Works 4.0, 4.5, and 4.5a for Windows 95

  • The first place holder references a blank field in the database.
For example, assume that a Word Processor document contains the following field place holders separated by one space:

<<field1>> <<field2>>

If field1 is blank during the form letter merge, field2 prints where the field1 place holder is positioned, ignoring the space character between the fields.

WORKAROUND

Works for Windows 95

Align the second place holder with a custom or pre-set tab stop.

Works 2.0 and 3.0

To correct the problem, place two or more white-space characters between the two place holders. The white-space characters could be spaces, tab characters, or a combination of both, such as one space character and one tab character.

NOTE: In Works for Windows version 2.0, only single space characters are suppressed. In version 2.0, either multiple space characters or a single tab character corrects the problem.
