This article was previously published under Q83700 SUMMARY
Because the Outline field in Microsoft Project is calculated, you cannot paste-link directly into it from another field. This can make it difficult to maintain your outline structure when paste-linking from one area of a project to another area, or to a different project. For example, if you have two tasks, where the second is subordinate to the first, and you copy and paste link to a new area, you lose your outline structure.
MORE INFORMATION
To work around this paste-linking behavior, you can copy your tasks, move to the new location, and then paste the information. Immediately after pasting the information, paste link the information over the top of the just-pasted information. By doing this, you will preserve your outline structure and you will have the tasks linked to your copied area.
