Advanced Clients cannot report inventory or download policies after you run the ACL Reset tool (829889)

SYMPTOMSAfter you run the Access Control List (ACL) Reset tool (Aclreset.exe) from the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 CD-ROM on an SMS 2003 site server computer, you may experience the following symptoms: - Client Inventory and Software Metering reports are not reported to the SMS site server when Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is turned on.
- Advanced Clients cannot download policy assignments.
CAUSEThis problem occurs because the ACL Reset tool removes permissions for the IUS and IWAM accounts from the
\SMS\CCM\Incoming and \SMS\CCM\Outgoing folders. Advanced Clients use these folders to download policies and to upload reports. The Advanced Client logs may record an "access denied" error when you try to access the \SMS\CCM\Incoming and \SMS\CCM\Outgoing folders.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, perform a site reset after you run the ACL Reset tool. To perform a site reset, follow these steps: - Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Systems Management Server, and then click SMS Setup.
- Click Next two times.
- Click Modify or reset the current installation, click Next, three times, and then click Finish.
- When the Setup program detects that no changes were made to the SMS site installation and prompts you to reset the site, click Yes.

- In the right pane, click SMS 2003 Concepts, Planning and Deployment Guide.
- Double-click Part 2: Concepts.
- Double-click Chapter 5: Understanding SMS Security.
- Double-click SMS Accounts and Groups.
- Click Managing Accounts Through Site Setup and Site Reset.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in SMS Service Pack 1.MORE INFORMATIONThe ACL Reset tool (version 2.50.2726.18) is included on the SMS 2003 CD-ROM. This version of the tool is designed only for SMS site backup and recovery tasks.
