- Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
SUMMARYWhen you use Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 (SMS 2003) on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 to install software updates that require a system restart, the SMS 2003 Software Update Installation Agent adds a planned restart system Event ID. When SMS 2003 restarts a Windows Server 2003 computer, an Event ID 6006 is generated. The Event ID 6006 describes the reason for the restart.
MORE INFORMATIONSMS 2003 does not add the planned restart system Event IDs in any previous Microsoft operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000. SMS 2003 restart system events are not tracked in Microsoft operating systems that are earlier than Windows Server 2003. However, the SMS 2003 Software Update Installation Agent does generate SMS status messages for this event on all supported client operating systems. These events can be tracked by using the SMS 2003 Status Messaging system.
