The Project Setup program cannot locate your earlier version of Microsoft Project when you upgrade to Project 2003 or install the Project 2000 update (828913)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003
- Microsoft Office Project Standard 2003
- Microsoft Project 2000
SYMPTOMSYou upgrade to Microsoft Office Project 2003 from an
earlier version of Microsoft Project . For example, you upgrade from Microsoft Project
2002. You may receive the following error message after you type the Product
Key, and then click Next: Setup failed
to locate a valid qualifying product on your machine.
Please select
the drive where a qualifying product can be found. When you select the hard disk drive that contains the installation of the earlier version of
Project and then click Next, the Setup program may
still not be able to find the qualifying product. When you try to install the Microsoft Project 2000 upgrade, you may receive the following error message: Qualifying product could not be found. CAUSEThis problem may occur if any one of the following conditions is true: - You installed the earlier version
of Microsoft Project to a different location than the default installation
location.
- An earlier version of Microsoft Project was not installed on the computer.
- You removed the earlier version of Microsoft Project before you tried to install the upgrade.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, click Locate in
the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section,
and then use one of the following methods:
- Insert the CD-ROM of the earlier version of Microsoft Project that is
installed, point the Setup program to your CD drive, and then click
OK to continue the installation.
- Point the Setup program to the location on the hard
disk drive in which the earlier version of Microsoft Project is installed, and then
click OK to continue the installation.
- If an earlier version of Microsoft Project was not installed, insert the CD from the earlier version of Microsoft Project into the computer's CD or DVD drive, and then use Windows Explorer to locate the CD or DVD drive.
