The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Project Server 2003
- Microsoft Project Web Access
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Office Project Server 2003, when you use the
Microsoft Office Project Sample Data Configuration Wizard to install and to
configure the sample database, and you click Use existing user accounts
for these roles on the User Accounts page, specify the user account
names that you want, and then click Install, you may receive
the following error message: The specified Windows user
accounts do not exist. Enter existing valid accounts for each
role. You experience these symptoms although the user accounts
actually exist. CAUSEThis problem may occur if you use the
DomainName\UserName
format to specify the domain user names. Although the User Accounts page of the
Sample Data and Configuration Wizard indicates that you can use the
DomainName\UserName
format when you specify existing user names, the user names are incorrectly
processed by the wizard.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, specify the user names that you
want after you install and configure the sample database. To do so, follow
these steps:
- Log on as administrator to Microsoft Project Web
Access.
- Click Admin.
- On the Administration overview page, click Manage
users and groups.
- On the Users page, click the user who you want to modify,
and then click Modify user.
- On the Modify User page, specify the Microsoft Windows user
account name that you want to use for the user, and then click Save
Changes.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each user who you want to
modify.
- Synchronize the appropriate Microsoft Windows SharePoint
Services user accounts.
To work around this problem, in the Sample Data and
Configuration Wizard, specify the user names in the
username@ domainname form.
The wizard will accept them in this form. Alternatively, to work
around this problem, specify the user names that you want after you install and
configure the sample database. To do so, follow these steps:
- Log on to Microsoft Project Web Access as an
administrator.
- Click Admin.
- On the Administration overview page, click Manage
users and groups.
- On the Users page, click the user who you want to modify,
and then click Modify user.
- On the Modify User page, specify the Microsoft Windows user
account name that you want to use for the user, and then click Save
Changes.
- Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each user who you want to
modify.

Services user accounts.
