The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003

For a Microsoft FrontPage 2002 version of this article, see 281707.

SYMPTOMS

When you turn off the use of JavaScript in Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003, you can still insert the MSNBC weather forecast component on your Web page, even though the MSNBC weather component uses JavaScript.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because FrontPage 2003 does not prevent you from inserting the MSNBC weather component when you turn off the use of JavaScript.

RESOLUTION

If the Web browser that your target audience uses does not support the use of JavaScript, do not insert the MSNBC weather forecast component.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When you develop Web pages, you may want to restrict the use of certain features that may be incompatible with the Web browsers that your target audience uses. You can configure the technologies that can be used when users are authoring pages in FrontPage 2003. The MSNBC weather forecast component uses JavaScript and will not work correctly if your target audience is using a Web browser that does not support JavaScript. However, if you use the Authoring options in the Page Options dialog box to turn off the use of JavaScript, you can still insert the MSNBC weather forecast component.

To turn on or turn off the use of JavaScript, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Page Options.
  2. Click the Authoring tab, and then under Available Technologies, click to select or click to clear the JavaScript check box.
  3. If the JavaScript check box is selected and unavailable, you have to click to clear the SharePoint Services check box before you can click to clear the JavaScript check box.
