Microsoft Project 2002 quits unexpectedly when you save a project plan locally after an attempt to save the project plan online fails (828866)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to save your Microsoft Project 2002 plan locally, Project 2002 may quit unexpectedly, and you may receive the following error message

Microsoft Project has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you view the details of the error message, you may receive an error signature that is similar to the following:

   AppName     AppVer     ModName     ModVer     Offset
   ----------------------------------------------------
   Winproj.exe  10.0.2002.502  Unknown  0.0.0.0  07ab639c

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you successfully save the project plan offline by using the Save Offline option, and then you unsuccessfully attempt to save the project plan online.

RESOLUTION
