X.500 addresses are not created for user accounts after you use the Migration Wizard to migrate users from Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2000 Server (828763)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Enterprise Server

SYMPTOMS

When you configure an inter-organization Active Directory Connector (ADC) and then use Migration Wizard in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server to migrate users from Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 to Exchange 2000 Server, you may find that X.500 addresses are not created for the users in Exchange 2000 Server. These symptoms occur even if you use either LDP or ADSI Edit to set the msExchInterOrgAddressType attribute on the connection agreement object in Active Directory to a value of "SMTP, X500" (without the quotation marks).

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Migration Wizard in Exchange 2000 incorrectly processes the legacyExchangeDN attribute in the x.500 proxy address when the Migration Wizard converts a mail-enabled user to a mailbox-enabled user.
