SYMPTOMS

After you install one of the products that are listed in the "Applies To" section with the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Elite keyboard, you may find that earlier scrolling devices, typically mouse devices, scroll at a much slower rate than they did before you installed your new keyboard and software.

You may also find that your pointer does not move as far on the screen in response to the actions that you take with the old mouse that you used before you installed the Wireless Optical Desktop Elite.

Note This may happen when you install any Microsoft keyboard with the tilt-wheel feature.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the tilt wheel on your Wireless Optical Desktop Elite and some other new Microsoft devices with the tilt wheel have a higher resolution (more wheel counts per rotation of the wheel) than earlier devices. The computer that has the new software installed is calibrated to work with a newer device so that when you use the old device, the scroll wheel on that device must rotate four times as much as the new device to send the same number of wheel counts to your computer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Note You may not want to complete this workaround because it will turn off the new features such as the tilt wheel and horizontal scrolling.

Select a non-tilt wheel device in Control Panel

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Mouse.
  2. Click the Buttons tab, and then select a non-tilt wheel device in the Connected device box.

Remove IntelliType Pro and IntelliPoint

  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. In the left pane, click Change or remove programs, and then click Microsoft Intellitype Pro 5.0 or later version in the list of currently installed programs, and then click Remove.
  3. Follow the prompts to complete the removal process.
  4. Repeat this procedure to remove IntelliPoint 5.0 or later version.
