OneNote 2003 takes long time to respond and its performance is slower than expected (828620)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office OneNote 2003
- Microsoft Office OneNote 2003, Service Pack 1 (SP1)
SYMPTOMSMicrosoft Office OneNote 2003 may respond slowly and take
longer than expected to switch between pages and folders.CAUSEThis problem occurs if your note page or pages have several
audio recordings in OneNote 2003 that are zero (0) kilobytes (KB) or contain
almost no audio data. These can be created if you stop and start several
recordings on a page. WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you must delete or rename the
zero KB audio recordings from your note pages. As of October 2003, there is no
way to determine if an audio recording contains any audio data or not, other
than by playing it. Warning If you are viewing a page with audio, you can use the
Delete Recording command on the Tools menu to
delete your audio recording. However, the Delete Recording
command deletes all the audio recordings on the page, and the
Undo command on the Edit menu does not work
for audio. To undelete audio, you must restore it from the Recycle
Bin. To delete or rename the zero KB audio recordings from your note
pages, follow these steps:
- Open the My Documents folder, and then open the My Notebook
folder.
Note that if your pages or sections are located in a folder
other than the My Notebook folder, the audio files will be in that other
folder, not in the My Notebook folder. - Delete or rename any zero byte .mwa files. If you are sure
that you will never want the zero byte .mwa files, you can delete
them.
If not, rename the .mwa files to a .oldmwa file name extension.
To delete a file, right-click the file, click Delete, and then
click OK. To rename a file, right-click the file, click
Rename, type the new file name, and then press
ENTER.
MORE INFORMATIONIf you use the Undo button after you
record, audio files are not removed from the notes. For example, if after you
stop the recording you click the Undo button on the toolbar
the audio file is not removed and the audio remains linked to the notes. To
remove the audio, on the Tools menu point to Audio
Recording, and then click Delete Recording. Note that
this removes all the audio recordings from the current page. STATUS Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
