A new side note window displays the text from another open side note window in OneNote 2003 (828618)

SYMPTOMSWhen you click the Open new side note icon
in the notification area, a new side note window appears with the text from
another open side note window and the new side note window is marked as read
only and you cannot make any edits.CAUSEThis problem occurs when both the first side note window and
the Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 window are minimized when you click the
Open new side note icon in the notification area to create a
new side note. This problem only occurs if you wait longer than the current
timeout value to create a new side note.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1. Method 1Activate the original side note item. Method 2Increase the timeout value. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start OneNote 2003.
- On the Tools menu, click
Options.
- In the Category box, click Open
and Save.
- Type a number that is higher than the current number in the
Automatically release file locks after OneNote has been inactive for
the following number of minutes box, and then click
OK.
Important Do not click to clear the Automatically release file
locks after OneNote has been inactive for the following number of
minutes check box.
Method 3Maximize the first side note window instead of creating a new side
note window, and then click New page to create a new side note
page. MORE INFORMATIONOneNote 2003 locks section files so that they cannot be
edited by more than one computer at the same time. By default, OneNote 2003
releases this lock after a certain period of time if you have not been working
on a file. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in OneNote 2003 Service Pack 1.
