SYMPTOMS
When you use the Msdmback.vbs tool to back up Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2001, the backup operation does not complete successfully. The following error message is logged to the backup log file:

Additionally, event ID error messages that are similar to the following messages are logged to the application event log:Type: Error

RESOLUTION
This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in a service pack. If you have installed SharePoint Portal Server 2001 Service Pack 3 or a later service pack, you do not have to apply the hotfix.
