Incorrect font is applied after a style is applied to a form field in Word 2003 (828501)

SYMPTOMS

When you insert and format a form field with a style, and then protect the document, the text is formatted with the incorrect font.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when East Asian language support is added in Regional and Language Options. This issue is caused by a conflict with the way that Asian fonts are handled.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, you must apply the style before you insert the form field. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Select the paragraph where you will insert the form field.
  2. Format the paragraph with the style that you want.
  3. Insert the form field in the paragraph.
