Third-party programs and the Service Advertising Protocol may not work as you expect after you apply security updates to Internet Explorer (828432)

SYMPTOMS

After you apply one or more of the following security updates to the corresponding version of Internet Explorer, third-party programs and the Service Advertising Protocol may not work as you expect.

After you apply the following security update, the Service Advertising Protocol may not work as you expect:

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the version of the Shlwapi.dll file that these security updates install uses a base memory address that is below the 0x7000000 memory address location. Some programs require a non-fragmented memory address space below the 0x7000000 memory address location.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1

To resolve this problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1, install security update MS03-048 or a later security update.

To resolve this problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 3 and in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 Service Pack 4, install the following hotfix.
