Slow performance results when you add a digital certificate to an Access database (828414)

SYMPTOMS

When you add a digital certificate to a Microsoft Office Access 2003 database, you may experience a delay when you open the database. A delay may also occur when you close the database, when you save the database, or when you save the database objects.

WORKAROUND

To work around the problem, compact the Access database by using the Compact and Repair Database utility. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Access 2003.
  2. On the Tools menu, point to Database Utilities, and then click Compact and Repair Database.
  3. In the Database to Compact From dialog box, select the database that you want to compact, and then click Compact.
  4. In the Compact Database Into dialog box, type the file name in the File name text box, and then click Save.
Note You can avoid this problem if you compact the Access database before you add a digital certificate to the Access database.
