How to locate qualified cluster solutions for Windows (828262)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SUMMARY

The Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) has been replaced by the Microsoft Windows Catalog as the premier location for locating Cluster Server hardware qualification data for Microsoft Windows 2000 and for Microsoft Windows Server 2003. All the Windows Server 2003 listings and the latest Windows 2000 listings are in the Windows Catalog. The remaining Windows 2000 listings are still on the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List (HCL).

When you search this site for a list of hardware that is qualified for Microsoft Server Cluster Solutions (MSCS), you must follow these steps:
  1. On the Windows Server Catalog Web site, click the Hardware tab.
  2. At the top of the left column under Browse Hardware, point to Cluster Solutions.
  3. Depending on the type of cluster you are considering, click one of the following solutions:
    • Cluster Solution
    • Geographically Dispersed Cluster Solution
The Cluster Solutions and Geographically Dispersed Cluster Solution categories display only complete cluster solutions that have been qualified. Microsoft Product Support Services fully supports only clusters that are complete solutions that are listed in the Cluster Solution category or in the Geographically Dispersed Cluster Solution category on the Windows Catalog.

MORE INFORMATION

The Windows Catalog lists supported solutions alphabetically by Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). Hardware that is qualified for the 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition is listed first, followed by hardware for the 32-bit version of the operating system.

When the user clicks on a particular solution, a page opens identifying the supported operating systems and the product details. A Windows Logo decal identifies the specific version of the operating system that is supported.
  • For cluster solutions where multiple products from an OEM are qualified, the Product Details section lists all components that were included in the OEM certification configuration. The following paragraph is at the very top of each page:

    The following products have been approved for use together in a Microsoft Cluster Solution.

    NoteAll software and hardware versions must be identical to the ones in this list, to be fully supported by Microsoft.

    Contact your selected hardware vendors for interoperability and support information before you deploy any cluster solution.

    The "Number of Nodes Tested" indicates the maximum number of nodes where the Server cluster was tested. Any combination of servers (including identical servers) from the Server Details section up to the number of nodes that are tested is considered a qualified server cluster configuration to be used with the listed RAID Storage and Storage Adapters only.
  • For cluster solutions where individual OEM products are qualified, the Product Details section lists the components that were included in the OEM certification configuration. The following paragraph is at the very top of each page:

    The following products have been approved for use together in a Microsoft Cluster Solution. Note: Click here to see what software and hardware versions must be identical to the ones in this list to be fully supported by Microsoft. Check with your selected hardware vendors for interoperability information before deploying any cluster solution.

    Note The word "here" in this paragraph is a link to additional details about each solution. When you click the link, a pop-up window will open. This pop-up window provides specific information for each component in the Qualified Cluster Solution, detailing whether the exact version that is listed must match or not.

Limitations

The current version of the Windows Server Catalog has the following limitations:
  • A search engine is provided that will allow the catalog to be searched by product name, manufacturer name, or both. The search engine does not support the use of Boolean search operators such as "and," "or," and other operators.
  • The Windows Server Catalog provides information for storage components that are qualified for "Multi-Cluster" under the product category "Storage/Raid Storage/Multi-Cluster."
  • Note Components that are listed in this category have passed Cluster Component Candidate testing. However, the component or the components do not qualify for Microsoft Cluster support services unless the component or the components are a component of a qualified solution that is listed in the Windows Server Catalog.
  • Continue to use the HCL Web site if you experience problems when you use the Windows Server Catalog.
