"ERR3:7075 Failed to change domain affiliation, hr=800706fb" error when the Active Directory Migration Tool version 2 is run in test mode (828261)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Active Directory Migration Tool version 2 (ADMTv2) in test mode to simulate computer account migration from a Microsoft Windows 2000 Active Directory to a Microsoft Windows 2003 Active Directory, the ADMTv2 may report errors for each computer account that is selected. Each workstation that you select for migration will log errors in the DCTLog.txt file that are similar to the following:
2003-07-31 09:51:40 ERR3:7075 Failed to change domain affiliation, hr=800706fb The security database on the server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship.
The DCTlog.txt file is in the computer's TEMP folder.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the security translation process queries for the migrated computer accounts in the target domain. Because no changes are actually written when you run the ADMTv2 in test mode, you will not find any migrated computer accounts in the target domain.

RESOLUTION

The computer account migration task will succeed when you run ADMTv2 in normal mode and changes are actually written.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
