For example, when you use the Windows XP Fax service to receive a Fax, you do not receive the fax.CAUSEThis behavior occurs because the program that you use to access the modem or fax does not use Telephony. For example, this behavior may occur if you use the Windows XP Fax service, and all the following conditions are true:
- You use a PCI Modem/Fax card.
- The modem uses one of your computer's COM ports.
- Your computer is Windows XP Media Center 2004-based
- You have turned on the CallerID feature.
WORKAROUNDWarning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. To work around this behavior, turn off the CallerID feature in Windows Media Center. To do this, follow these steps: - Locate and click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service - On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
- Type UseTelephony, and then press ENTER.
- Right-click the (Default) String value in the UseTelephony key, and then click Modify.
- Type 0, and then click OK.
Note Restart your computer to apply this change.
