You Cannot Retrieve a Blocked E-Mail Attachment After Another Attachment with the Same File Name Is Blocked (828057)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, Premium Edition
- Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, Standard Edition
SYMPTOMSIf you use the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard to configure Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 to block e-mail attachments and to move them to a folder, and you receive an e-mail attachment that has the same file name as an earlier attachment that Small Business Server blocked and moved, you cannot retrieve the earlier attachment.CAUSEWhen Small Business Server removes an attachment from an e-mail message, and then Small Business Server removes another attachment that has the same file name from another e-mail message, the attachment that was received later overwrites the earlier attachment. The earlier attachment is overwritten even though the attachment that was received later is a different file. This behavior occurs because the primary goal of this feature is to block potentially dangerous viruses that are sent as attachments. The option to save attachments to a folder is intended to help you save and retrieve files that you want to keep. However, this feature cannot distinguish between two files that have the same file name.
