When you call the GetFullPathNameA method on a double-byte character set, you may receive an access violation in Windows NT 4.0 (828038)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows Windows NT 4.0, when you call the GetFullPathNameA method, the GetFullPathNameA method returns a value that is equal to the maximum number of bytes in a buffer that holds the path name plus one (MAX_PATH+1). You expect the method to return a value that is equal to the maximum number of bytes in a buffer that holds the path name (MAX_PATH). This problem occurs when you call the GetFullPathNameA method on the following double-byte character sets (DBCS):
  • Chinese (Simplified)
  • Chinese (Traditional)
  • Japanese
  • Korean
When theGetFullPathNameA method returns a value that is equal to MAX_PATH+1, an access violation may occur.
