Delete Event Runs Even Though the File or Folder in the Document Library Is Not Deleted (827928)

SYMPTOMS

When you delete files or folders in the document library of your Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Web site, you may find that a delete event runs even though the delete operation does not succeed. For example, a delete event runs when you try to delete a file that a different user has already checked out.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the document library is configured to use event handlers. In that case, a delete event runs even though the file or folder in the document library is not deleted.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows SharePoint Services.

When you enable document library events for a document library, you can bind an event handler to that document library. When you do so, you can create custom programs that use document library events to perform automated actions. Before you can use document library events to write code, you must first enable event handlers at the virtual server level.
