MBCS Characters in a .dwg File Are Displayed as Alphanumeric Characters When You Open the File in AutoCAD MText Editor (827864)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
- Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen you convert a Microsoft Office Visio 2003 drawing that
contains Multi-Byte Character Set (MBCS) Japanese characters to AutoCAD (CAD)
format by saving the drawing as a .dwg file, and then you open the .dwg file by
using the MText Editor in AutoCAD, the MBCS characters are not displayed as
MBCS characters. The MBCS characters are displayed as encoded text that
contains alphanumeric characters. CAUSEThis issue may occur in situations when the codepage of the
.dwg file is different from the codepage of the operating system where you are
running the AutoCAD MText Editor. For example, this issue may occur if you use
either Visio 2003 or AutoCAD to create a .dwg file on a computer that is
running a Japanese-language version of Microsoft Windows, and then use AutoCAD
MText Editor to open the .dwg file on a computer that is running an
English-language version of Windows. If the codepage of the operating system
and the codepage of the drawing do not match, AutoCAD MText Editor displays the
characters as encoded text.WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, save the .dwg file in AutoCAD.
After you do so, the MBCS characters are displayed as expected when you open
the .dwg file in AutoCAD MText Editor.
