Kanji Characters in a CAD Drawing That You Open in Visio 2003 Are Displayed Incorrectly as Question Mark Characters (827861)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Visio 2003, when you open a CAD drawing (.dwg file) that contains Kanji characters, you may find that the Kanji characters in the drawing are displayed incorrectly as question mark characters "?" (without the quotation marks).

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the Kanji characters are contained in a Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) framework. Visio does not support using text in a GD&T framework.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use only supported tolerance symbols in a GD&T framework.
