Some Web page links do not appear when you sign in to a SharePoint Portal Server site by using anonymous access (827847)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
SYMPTOMSWhen you install a Web part that creates an instance of the AuthenticationButton Web form control on a Web page in your portal site, you experience one of the following symptoms when you try to access that Web page: - You are prompted to sign in by using the Web part control, but when you sign in, the My Site and the My Settings links at the upper right area of the Web page do not appear.
-or- - You are not prompted to sign in by using the Web part control. Additionally, the My Site and the My Settings links do not appear.
If you turn on anonymous access to the Web site in Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager and then run the iisreset command to reset Internet services, the problem is not resolved. You experience the first symptom in the previous list when you access the Web page. CAUSEThis problem occurs if both the following conditions are true: - You turn on anonymous access to your SharePoint Portal Server site (in the site, you click Site Settings, click Manage security and additional settings, click Change anonymous access settings, click Areas, content and search, and then click OK).
-and- - You turn on anonymous access to the virtual server in Internet Information Services and then reset Internet services (for example, you run the iisreset command or you restart the Web server computer).
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, follow these steps: - Turn off anonymous access in Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. To do so:
- Start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- Expand the server that contains the virtual server where you want to turn off anonymous access, expand Web sites, right-click the Web site that you want to modify (for example, right-click Default Web Site), and then click Properties.
- Click the Directory Security tab, and then click Edit under Authentication and access control.
- Click to clear the Enable anonymous access check box, and then click OK.
- Click OK, and then quit Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Type iisreset, and then press ENTER to stop and then restart Internet services.
After you perform the previous steps, anonymous access is turned off in Internet Information Services, but the SharePoint Portal Server anonymous access settings that you have configured are still enabled. If you again want to turn on anonymous access in Internet Information Services, follow these steps: - Start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- Expand the server that contains the virtual server where you want to turn off anonymous access, expand Web sites, right-click the Web site that you want to modify (for example, right-click Default Web Site), and then click Properties.
- Click the Directory Security tab, and then click Edit under Authentication and access control.
- Click to select the Enable anonymous access check box, and then click OK.
- Click OK, and then quit Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
Important Do not run the iisreset command to restart Internet services.
