You receive an "Unexpected Error occurred" error message when you connect to the configuration database in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (827841)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to connect to the configuration database to
join a server to a SharePoint Portal Server 2003 server farm, you receive the
following message in the SharePoint Portal Server Central Administration
utility: Unexpected Error
occurred. CAUSEThis problem occurs if a networking problem exists on the
server that you want to add to the server farm. For example, if the server has
an incorrect Internet Protocol (IP) address. In this case, SharePoint Portal
Server generates the error message that is described in the "Symptoms" section
of this article. However, this error message does not describe why you cannot
connect to the configuration database.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, verify the network settings and
connectivity on the server that you want to join to the server
farm.STATUS Microsoft

at the beginning of this article.
