SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Publisher 2000, the Microsoft Windows Installer may also start and try to repair Publisher 2000 for a missing feature.

CAUSE

This problem occurs after you update Publisher 2000 with the Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1). Sometimes the Pub60cor.mmc file, a multimedia catalog file for Microsoft Clip Gallery 5.0, is not replaced. Because the Pub60cor.mmc file is not replaced, either because it was modified or it was in use, it causes the Windows Installer to try to repair the Publisher 2000 installation. The Pub60cor.mmc file will have a modified and a create date of August 5, 1998.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps.

Note To follow these steps, you must have your Office 2000 SR-1 or Microsoft Publisher 2000 Service Release 1 installation CD.
  1. Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
  2. Open the following folder:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Clipart\Pub60Cor

  3. Locate the Pub60cor.mmc file.
  4. Rename the file to Pub60cor.old.
  5. Close Windows Explorer.
  6. Start Publisher 2000.
The Windows Installer will start and repair the installation of Publisher 2000. When prompted, insert the appropriate CD in your CD or DVD ROM drive.
