Office 2003 uses English (U.K.) when your default system locale is set to English (Philippines) (827767)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003
  • Microsoft Office Basic Edition 2003
  • Microsoft Office Small Business Edition 2003
  • Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003
  • Microsoft Office Students and Teachers Edition 2003

SYMPTOMS

When your default system locale (Language for non-Unicode programs setting in Control Panel Regional and Language Options) is set to English (Philippines), you notice that Office 2003 uses English (U.K.) formatting conventions instead of English (U.S.).

If you view your Office 2003 Language Settings (in All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office 2003 Language Settings), you see that English (U.K.) is the default language that is listed under Choose the language that defines default behavior in Microsoft Office applications, instead of the expected English (U.S.).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because English (Philippines) is not an option for the available languages in Office 2003. Instead of defaulting to English (U.S.) when English (Philippines) is set as the default system locale, English (U.K.) is picked instead.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Office 2003.
