Scheduled Recordings Do Not Occur After the Computer Resumes from Standby (827356)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004

SYMPTOMS

Scheduled recordings may not occur or may be truncated after Microsoft Windows XP Media Center resumes (awakens) your computer from standby.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs for the following reasons:
  • Scheduled recordings may not occur if your computer goes into standby while the FM Radio feature of Media Center is playing.
  • Scheduled recordings may be truncated if you start using Media Center after it resumes the computer from standby to start a scheduled recording.
In the suspend sequence, interprocess communications may fail, and as a result, CloseMedia function calls from the client do not occur. The IRecorder function closes the media on behalf of its clients. In the resume sequence, User Experience calls the CloseMedia function. These mismatched calls cause media that is opened by the scheduler to close, and therefore, the recording is truncated.
