Error message occurs when you close a file or a presentation in PowerPoint: "PowerPoint has encountered an error and must close" (827319)

SYMPTOMSWhen you close a file or a presentation in Microsoft
Office PowerPoint, you may receive an error message that resembles the
following error message: PowerPoint has encountered an error and must
close. The module Vbe6.dll may be referenced in the error message or
in the error report. RESOLUTIONFor Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 and for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
- Exit PowerPoint.
- Click Start, click Search, and then click All files and folders.
- Type Vbe6.dll as the file name, and
then click Search.
- Click Start, and then click
Run.
- Type regsvr32 /u in the Open box. Make sure that you include a trailing space after the
"/u".
- Drag the Vbe6.dll file from the Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Vba\Vba6 folder in the Search Results
box to the Open box after the "/u". The text in theOpen
box now resembles the following text:
regsvr32 / u "C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Vba\Vba6\Vbe6.dll" - Click OK. You receive a message that
states that the operation succeeded. Click OK.
- In the Search window, right-click the
Vbe6.dll file that you used in step 6, and then click
Rename.
- Rename the file to Vbe6.old, and then close the Search
window.
- Start PowerPoint.
- If you are prompted to repair the installation, click
No.
- On the Tools menu, point to
Macro, and then click Visual Basic
Editor.
- Click Yes when you are prompted to
repair.
