When you use the Database Wizard to link shapes in your Visio drawing to records in a database table, the maximum number of fields that you can use as the primary key for a database table is five.

The primary key is the field or the combination of fields that uniquely identifies each record in a database table. You can select from one to five fields in the Number of fields box when you configure the primary key for the database table that you want to link to.

To use the Database Wizard in Visio to link shapes in your drawing to a database, follow these steps:
  1. Start Visio and open your drawing.
  2. Select the shapes that you want to link to the database.
  3. On the Tools menu, point to Add-Ons, point to Visio Extras, and then click Database Wizard.

    The Database Wizard starts.
  4. Click Next.

    Follow the instructions in the remaining pages of the Database Wizard to link the shapes to the database.
