BUG: The "Copy To" Folder for Users Who Have Administrative Credentials Points to the Administrator Home Directory on SysPrep Images (827034)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows Millennium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 Series for Windows Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

When a user account that has administrative credentials logs on to a computer that has been prepared by means of the Microsoft Systems Preparation tool (SysPrep.exe) to include Windows Media Player 9 Series, the Copy To location may incorrectly point to the administrator folder:

%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Music

instead of pointing to the user folder:

%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\%UserName%\My Music

RESOLUTION

While you are running the SysPrep tool, delete the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences\CDRecordPath

The next time that Windows Media Player starts, because the key no longer exists, the player uses the default path.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This issue may also affect the Copy To location for Microsoft Windows Movie Maker.
