You may receive an error message when a delegate tries to view a message in your Inbox in Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2002 (826968)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
- Microsoft Outlook 2002
SYMPTOMSWhen you use the Delegate Access feature in Outlook 2003 to
grant an Outlook 2003 user or an Outlook 2002 user access to your Inbox, the
delegate may receive an error message that is similar to the following when the
delegate opens a message in your Inbox: Cannot open this
item. You do not have the appropriate permission to perform this
operation. CAUSEThis issue may occur if you assign the delegate Reviewer
permission to your Inbox, and both of the following conditions are true:
- The message is digitally signed.
- The message uses Microsoft Outlook Rich Text Format (RTF)
and contains a Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) body
part.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, grant the delegate Editor
permissions to your Inbox. Note that when you grant a delegate Editor
permission to your Inbox, the delegate can read, create, modify, and delete
items in your Inbox. To grant a delegate Editor permission to your Inbox,
follow these steps:
- Start Outlook (if it is not already started).
- On the Tools menu, click
Options, and then click the Delegates
tab.
- Click the delegate whose permissions you want to change,
and then click Permissions.
- In the Inbox box, click Editor
(can read, create, and modify items).
- To send a message to notify the delegate of the change in
permissions, click to select the Automatically send a message to
delegate summarizing these permissions check box.
- Click OK, and then click
OK.
