Some buttons are unavailable if the connection to the Exchange server is lost when you try to open a new message in Outlook 2003 (826967)


The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

If the connection to the Microsoft Exchange server is lost when you try to open a new message in Outlook 2003, the Mark this message for download button in the Reading Pane becomes unavailable (appears dimmed). After a connection to the Exchange server has been re-established, the Download the rest of this message now button in the Reading Pane is unavailable (appears dimmed).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Download the rest of this message now button is turned off in the code when the message starts to download.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem and reactivate the Mark this message for download and Download the rest of this message now buttons, do one of the following:
  • Move the message to another folder, and then move the message back to the original folder.

    -or-
  • Quit and restart Outlook 2003.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
