Microsoft Fax is not available in the Fax Wizard in Word 2003 (826866)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Fax Wizard in Microsoft Office Word 2003, Microsoft Fax is unavailable (dimmed). This symptom occurs on the third screen of the Fax Wizard, on the Fax Software page.

Note To start the Fax Wizard, use one of the following procedures:
  • Click File, click Send To, and then click Recipient using a Fax Modem.

    -or-
  • In the New Documents task pane, in the Templates section, click On my computer. In the Templates dialog box, click the Letters & Faxes tab, click the Fax Wizard template, and then click OK.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Microsoft Fax software is not installed.

RESOLUTION

Install the Microsoft Fax Software

To install Microsoft Fax software, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Click Add or Remove Windows Components.
  4. Click to select the Fax Services check box.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup.
