Frames are always shown in Web presentations in PowerPoint 2003 (826827)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003

For a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 version of this article, see 291897.

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 Web presentations always have frames. There is no way to disable the frame pages layout. This functionality is different from Microsoft PowerPoint 7.0 for Windows 95, or Microsoft PowerPoint 97, where you can create Web presentations that do not use frames.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because PowerPoint 2003 uses a frameset layout where elements, such as outline, navigation controls, and slides always appear in the same location.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Disable Navigation Controls

You can disable slide navigation controls in your Web presentation. This forces your Web presentation to open in full-screen mode. This does not disable frames however; it reduces them to 0 points in height and width. To disable slide navigation controls, follow these steps.

Note If you disable slide navigation controls, you cannot explore your presentation in a Web browser unless you use Action Settings on your slides.
  1. Open your PowerPoint 2003 presentation.
  2. On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.
  3. In the Save As dialog box, on the Tools menu, click Web Options.
  4. On the General tab, click to clear the Add slide navigation controls check box, and then click OK.
  5. Click Save.

Method 2: Disable the Outline Frame

Note This method publishes your Web presentation in the "Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later" format, and uses a "Screen size" setting for the target monitor of 544 x 376. To disable the outline frame, follow these steps:
  1. Open your PowerPoint 2003 presentation.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. In the Options dialog box, on the General tab, click Web Options.
  4. In the Web Options dialog box, on the General tab, click to clear the Resize graphics to fit browser window check box.
  5. On the Pictures tab, in the Screen Size drop-down box, click 544 x 376.
  6. Click OK, and then click OK again.
  7. On the File menu, click Save as Web Page.
  8. Click Publish.
  9. Under Browser support, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0, Netscape Navigator 3.0, or later, and then click Publish.
The Web presentation now has only the slide frame and navigation bar frame visible.
