SQL Server 2000 Release A replaces SQL Server 2000 (826818)

Microsoft has replaced all editions of SQL Server 2000 with SQL Server 2000 Release A. The update helps to protect a SQL Server 2000 installation in a production environment because it includes the Slammer security patch.

Microsoft recommends that you replace your current SQL Server 2000 media with SQL Server 2000 Release A.

Important Notes

• Because this is a replacement for SQL Server 2000, there is no distinction in naming between SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2000 Release A. All available editions of SQL Server 2000 will contain SQL Server 2000 Release A software.
• SQL Server 2000 Release A only includes the Slammer worm security patch. It does not include any fixes that have been made to SQL Server 2000 since its original release.

New Deployments or Reinstallations

If you are deploying new instances of SQL Server 2000, Microsoft strongly recommends that you deploy SQL Server 2000 Release A, and that you immediately apply the latest SQL Server service pack, SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3a.
